Brindavan Gardens
The Brindavan Gardens, situated approximately 21 km away from
Mysore, is a sprawling 60-acre garden built along the Cauvery river.
Constructed in 1932 by the Diwan of Mysore, Sir Mirza Ismail, it took five
years to complete the project. Divided into two parts, north and south, the
garden offers a host of experiences including boating, a walkway bridge, and
well-manicured grass with flowerbeds.
The main attraction of Brindavan Gardens is the musical fountain
show that combines well-synchronised fountains with laser lights and music.
Visitors can enjoy a colourful display of the flow of water, digitally
controlled to operate an aquatic organ. The show plays a range of songs from
instrumental to patriotic and can be seen for an hour on weekdays and two hours
on weekends.
The beauty of Brindavan Gardens is enhanced during the evenings,
with footpaths lit up by colourful lights and yellow lamps glowing under the
trees. Visitors can take an evening stroll or enjoy the most-awaited fountain
show. The gardens also house two horticulture farms, the Naguvana Horticulture
Farm and the Chandravana Horticulture Farm, where a variety of plants and trees
are grown.
The best time to visit Brindavan Gardens is between October and
February when the weather is pleasant, and the temperature ranges from 20 to 25
degrees Celsius. Visitors are advised to avoid summers and monsoons when the
weather is too hot or rainy. Evenings are the perfect time to visit the gardens
to enjoy the natural beauty, witness the captivating view of the sunset, and
watch the musical fountain show.
To reach Brindavan Gardens, visitors can take a bus or hire an autorickshaw or taxi from Mysore city's bus stand. The gardens are located on the KRS Dam Road near Mandya town. The construction of Brindavan Gardens was started in 1927 by the Department of Horticulture and completed in 1932. The garden's designs have been inspired by the ancient Mughal Style Shalimar Bagh of Kashmir and are now maintained by the Cauvery Irrigation Department, Government of Karnataka.
